Toft Audio Designs - ATC-2
Comprising two recording channels, each featuring mic preamp, instrument input, equaliser and compression. This is a highly unusual package containing as it does 2 x linkable channel strips for use in stereo recording and signal reprocessing. The mic preamp is the same as that employed in Toft's recording consoles of the era, and the dynamics and equaliser sections are reputed to have borrowed heavily from some of the vintage Trident designs. This unit has had the pots cleaned and all are working nicely. All I/O is working fine. It has some cosmetic wear. It was built c. 2004-6. Each channel is capable of 60db of gain. It easily handles an SE Electronics VR1 Ribbon microphone which was used for the test. The instrument inputs sound clean and nice. This would be a great unit to learn about recording, EQ and dynamics processing as it is so hands on. It's EQ is particularly detailed. As a centrepiece for a home studio or as a preamp for a stereo mic setup such as drum OHs, acoustic guitars, snare and kick, it definitely excels for function and convenience.
